Structural Draftsperson

Closing date: August 29, 2020 Location: Halifax, NS Type: Full-Time


The following position is open in our Halifax, NS office for individuals looking for a challenging opportunity to develop a career within our dynamic consulting practice.


The successful candidate will be able to work independently as well as with a group and multitask on several projects simultaneously.  Additionally, the candidate must be capable of generating full construction drawings from initial pre-design phase through to completion of the project with minimal supervision. Previous experience with bridge design is preferred.

 Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with senior project engineer & project managers to ensure project deliverables are created on time and under budget;

  • Assist bridge designers in determining the general arrangement of bridge structures;

  • Work with Senior or Intermediate Engineers to prepare tender drawings for bridge construction or rehabilitation projects;

  • Coordinating projects with all other project disciplines;

  • Working closely with junior project engineer(s) to relay timelines and identify what information is required and when it is required;

  • Identifying any potential constructability issues on the drawings;

  • Reviewing incoming models and/or drawings from other disciplines/Consultants and making adjustments to structural drawings as required;

  • Performing Quantity take offs;

  • Reviewing shop drawings;

  • Answering RFI’s;

  • Coordinating design changes and issue site instruction sketches as required;

  • Keeping up to date with building construction practices & technology.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in structural drafting;

  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD;

  • Good understanding of structural engineering drawings and details;

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications;

  • Strong technical, written and verbal communication skills;

  • Ability to operate as a part of a team;

  • Well organized and have an attention for detail;

  • Knowledge of Revit and Civil 3D is considered an asset.
