Potable Water Systems

CBCL staff are the leaders in potable water treatment in Atlantic Canada. We have experience in all aspects of potable water treatment of both ground-water and surface water including raw water characterization, treatability testing, process selection, process development, pilot testing, pre-design, detailed design, construction inspection and administration, plant commissioning and start-up, operator training and evaluation, and troubleshooting for existing treatment systems.  

Municipal Wastewater Treatment

Collectively, CBCL Limited staff have more years of experience in municipal wastewater treatment than any other group in Atlantic Canada. Staff have participated and directed all aspects ofwastewater treatment system development including waste stream characterization, flow gauging, treatability testing, process selection and development, predesign, detailed design, construction inspection and administration, plant commissioning and start-up, operator training and evaluation, and optimization of existing treatment systems.  

Industrial Wastewater Treatment

The Water and Wastewater department has considerable experience in the treatment of industrial waste streams. CBCL has carried out waste stream characterization, including flow gauging as well as treatability testing and process development evaluation and selection. Predesign, detailed design and construction-related services have also been provided to various industrial clients throughout the Atlantic Region. CBCL staff have provided professional services to a wide range of industries including food processing, pulp and paper, mining, confectionery, dairy, petroleum, textile, and cement plants.   

Leachate Treatment

The staff of CBCL's Water and Wastewater department can provide services in leachate quantity generation and quality predictions for new and existing landfills. CBCL also has bench scale treatability testing capability for various strengths and qualities of leachate. In addition, process selection, predesign, detailed design, and construction-related services are offered for all aspects of leachate treatment system design.

On-site Sewage Disposal Systems

The Water and Wastewater Department also staff have considerable experience in the area of on-site sewage disposal systems. Staff are involved in the assessment of land to determine the suitability of on-site sewage disposal systems for individual lots and establishments with small flows. Master Plans indicating development layouts are produced followed by the detailed design and construction inspection of the on-site sewage disposal systems.

Laboratory Facilities

CBCL Limited has a modern, on-site laboratory which is used extensively for water and wastewater characterization, treatability testing and process selection and development. In addition, CBCL has an extensive inventory of pilot testing equipment for water and wastewater treatment evaluation.

Awards

CBCL Limited was recently awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Engineering for the Port Hawkesbury Water Treatment Plant which is the first full-scale installation of a dissolved air flotation (DAF) process for potable water in Canada and one of the first in North America.
