CBCL Limited has assembled an Environmental Services Group to supply efficient and effective solutions for environmental science problems for our wide range of clients.
Environmental Design Expertise
Environmental Law and Resource Management
The multidiscipline resources of CBCL are also available to provide specialized input to projects undertaken by the Environmental Services Group. This group offers expertise in the following areas.
Environmental Impact Assessment
The Environmental Team in Halifax has an excellent track record of working with the client, the regulatory authorities and other parties to fulfil the requirements of federal and provincial legislation. Current work in this field includes the socio-economic assessment and public consultation program, required by the National Energy Board (NEB), for the Saint John Natural Gas Lateral. The Team's specific strengths in this field relate to the management of the regulatory process, land-use and socio-economic analysis, public consultation, and the provision of expert testimony.
Environmental Management Systems
CBCL assists clients in the implementation of an EMS. The services offered range from a review of facilities and operations to identify areas of exposure to environmental liability, to design of measures to mitigate the client's exposure. The measures would include design of treatment or containment systems, development of handling procedures or training programs for employees and implementation of a documentation system required for an EMS.
CBCL staff have experience in all aspects of waste management including site selection, environmental impact assessments, facility design, materials recycling facilities, composting facilities, closure and monitoring. A related specialty is the design of barrier systems for landfills and lagoons.
CBCL's approach to hydrogeologic investigations integrates hydrological and geological data, state-of-the-art hydrogeologic concepts, and modelling to find cost-effective solutions to problems and issues related to ground water. Staff members have been involved with various aspects of hydrogeology, including, the exploration for, and development of, ground water resources, aquifer tests, water quality, remedial investigations, well-head protection, ground-water monitoring and numerical modelling.
Site Reclamation and Remediation
CBCL Teams are uniquely positioned to assist clients with reclamation of disturbed lands and with ecological restoration of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Our multi-disciplinary approach provides planning, site engineering, environmental, and landscape architectural expertise to develop innovative solutions to industrial and commercial sites.
Watershed and Coastal Zone Management
Increasing attention is being paid to the management of resources and communities using a watershed or coastal zone approach. CBCL assists communities and large land owners in the definition of hydro-logical conditions within their watershed with respect to existing and proposed operations, water supply, flood plain mapping, land stewardship and development, waste water collection, treatment and disposal, and storm water management. The firm is active in local, regional and international activities to advance integrated approaches to the management of resources in the coastal zone, including pollution prevention, shore line stabilization, and harbour developments. CBCL can also provide expert facilitation to assist in multi-stakeholder and international programs to advance the principles of sustainable development.
Environmental Site Assessments
Our team is fully experienced in environmental audits and assessments and has a considerable roster of projects on contaminated sites. Drawing on this expertise, CBCL is able to provide an in-depth evaluation of a given site for both Phase I and Phase II investigations. CBCL Limited combines cost-effective and innovative solutions to environmental problems with full service capability to identify, analyze and solve chemical and hazardous waste problems.
